We Are the Lammers Family
Privathotel Riesenbeck – the Lammers family “Somewhere between the farm, the raised beds, the hotel and the motorhome garage lies our perfectly normal madness.” We are the Lammers family from Hörstel

The Lammers and Wiege Families – Passion, Humour and a Pinch of Hospitality
When people ask me why I actually became a hotelier, I usually reply with a little smile:
“Well – as the German saying goes, if you don’t become anything else, you become an innkeeper (“Wirt”). And if you become even less, you become a farmer (“Landwirt”). So today I’m simply both.”
Of course, that’s not meant entirely seriously. But there’s a grain of truth in it.
I come from a true family of hoteliers – the Wiege family. For us, hospitality was never just a job but always part of everyday life. You grow into it quite naturally, help out, watch and pick up a lot along the way without really thinking about it.
My father, Reinhard Wiege, worked as a hotelier for many years and showed me early on what really matters.
My mother, Antonia Wiege, is a pâtissière with her own cake business – so in our family we didn’t just work, we also ate really well.
My siblings have also gone their own ways, but always with a connection to the industry.
Then, in 2004, the other side came along:
When I married, I joined the Lammers family – a family with deep roots in farming.
Over time, things developed quite naturally:
On the one side tourism and letting, on the other agriculture, land, forest and leasing.
Today I find myself somewhere right in between – or perhaps right in the combination of the two.
And to be honest: that feels just right 🙂
And Right in the Middle?
And right in the middle: Hannes Lammers (born Wiege), a host heart and soul.
Trained as a hotel specialist (Hotelfachmann), schooled as a bartender and a certified German wine consultant.
I completed a classic apprenticeship as a hotel specialist, worked behind the bar and went on to qualify as a German wine consultant. In short: I know what hospitality should feel like.
I also cooked for many years, by the way – in my parents’ hotel. There you quickly learn that a good breakfast is sometimes worth more than any grand theory.
Just as naturally as I make fresh scrambled eggs in the morning, you may also find me out in the woods looking after the trees, the land and various projects. Because alongside the hotel, I am also active in the family business “Lammers Flächen & Quartiere Hörstel”. A bit of hotel, a bit of forestry, a bit of letting and leasing – it never really gets boring. And that’s exactly what I like.
Before running Privathotel Riesenbeck with great passion, I was self-employed in the media sector for many years. My focus was on digitalisation and on developing and selling print media. These included the nationally known Schlemmerbuch and the wedding magazine “Ja, ich will” (“I do”), which I helped develop and distributed for many districts. The combination of ideas, design, marketing and an eye for what really appeals to people has always fascinated me – and still shapes my work today.
Perhaps that is exactly what defines me: I like to think practically, roll up my sleeves and keep developing things, without ever losing sight of the human side. Or to put it another way: I like things that are done well – whether it’s a hotel room, a breakfast egg, a magazine or a new project.
Today I run Privathotel Riesenbeck.
Not a glossy off-the-peg hotel, but a house with a concept that reflects exactly what matters to us as a family: authentic, genuine and uncomplicated. So that you simply feel at home.
If you like, you can find out more about the history of the house here –
and a little more about us here.
Warm regards and wishing you a pleasant break from hotel chains,
Hannes Lammers and Family
👨👩👧👦 Who is actually behind Privathotel Riesenbeck?
We are the Lammers family – Hannes & Theresa with our four children Tom, Tilda, Jakob and Lotte. Together we run the hotel with heart, hands-on work and a few crazy ideas.
🚜 What does a tractor have to do with a hotel?
More than you might think! We come from a farm, and just as other people have a company car, for us the tractor is somehow part of the package. It reminds us that hospitality and being down-to-earth belong together.
🌾 Is the farm still active?
Yes – farming is part of our history. A few fields and patches of woodland are still being worked. And sometimes vegetables from the garden end up straight on the hotel breakfast table.
🚐 Why do you love travelling by motorhome so much?
With four children, it’s our ticket to freedom. Our Dethleffs is living room, playground and adventure base all in one. And to be honest, between you and us: every now and then we also like being completely hotel-free 😉
🛏️ What makes your hotel different from a chain?
With us there’s no one-size-fits-all. Instead of a minibar we have a self-service bar, instead of a lobby a living room – and instead of run-of-the-mill you get genuine hospitality from the heart.
🎲 How do the children keep busy at the hotel?
Our children are an important part of our lives – but not of everyday hotel life. We believe children should be allowed to be children. That’s why for Tom, Tilda, Jakob and Lotte the focus is on adventures, playgrounds and imagination, not on reception and the breakfast buffet. That way, at the hotel we can be hosts through and through – and at home simply Mum and Dad.
🐓 Do you have any animals?
Of course! Two cats keep the farm lively. 🙂 They’re just not allowed in the hotel or on holiday – they’re more into catching mice and keeping an eye on the farm.
: 🔥 What do your evenings look like?
At home, things get cosy in the fireside room. There, by a crackling fire, we plan the next motorhome route and come up with ideas for making our guests that little bit happier – and sometimes we secretly watch an episode on Netflix once the children are finally asleep. But shhh, that stays between us 😉.
🏡 How do you combine farm life and hotel life?
Pretty well, actually. The farm is our roots, the hotel our passion. The children switch seamlessly between straw bales and garden adventures – and we grown-ups between the breakfast room and the fireside.
💡 How did you come up with the idea for the hotel?
The house has been around for more than 150 years. When we took it over, we wanted to preserve its tradition and at the same time create something new. The result is a place that is as individual as our family – and definitely doesn’t feel like a hotel chain.
✨ Why should I choose Privathotel Riesenbeck?
Because we are more than just a hotel. With us you don’t stay anonymously – you become part of a little story: our story. A house with more than 150 years of tradition that we have modernised with great passion. A place where farm, family and travel come together.
You won’t get a standardised hotel experience here, but a living room for the time of your stay. You can pour yourself a glass of wine at the self-service bar, round off the evening in the fireside room or enjoy the smell of fresh bread rolls in the morning.
And most importantly: we do a lot of things with a wink, but we always take one thing seriously – that you feel welcome, comfortable and a little bit at home with us.
